Ubuntu 7.10 Post Install Script

If you plan on upgrading or installing the new version of Ubuntu (7.10 Gutsy Gibbon) here is a useful script that will install some essential packages that it doesn't normally come with.
Note: This script will overwrite your existing sources.list (repository list) file. If you installed Ubuntu without being connected to the internet, this file is usually broken anyways.

To run the script, copy and paste the command below into a terminal. Make sure you have sudo privileges or you are su. You can become su (superuser which is root) by typing 'su' in a terminal, which will then prompt you for the root password. If you do not know the root password (usually not set) you can change/set it password by typing 'sudo passwd root' then try 'su' again. You can also start a root or su terminal by typing 'gksu gnome-terminal' in a regular terminal.

ntfs-config - Type this in the console to mount NTFS partitions R/W
ubuntu-restricted-extras - Fonts, Flash Player, other stuff...
acroread - Acrobat Reader and Plugins
rar, unrar, p7zip-full, unace - Additional file compression/decompression tools
numlockx - Tool to turn on numlock at login. You can just add 'numlockx' command to System -> Preferences -> Sessions
