iPhone 2.2.1 Jailbreak Guide

Things you will need:

Before you begin:
WARNING!:
Do NOT upgrade to 2.2.1 if you want to have your iPhone 3G unlocked. Only 2.2 can be unlocked.)

Download and install iTunes. Download QuickPwn 2.2.5, and the correct iPhone firmware file for your iPhone, and Bootloaders if you have an iPhone 2G (1st Gen) and wish to unlock it.

Goto iPhone>Settings>General>About and make sure your iPhone 2G or 3G is at version 2.2.1. If it is at a lower or higher version then you will need to restore it to 2.2.1. See restoring 2.2.1 section.

Restore to 2.2.1:
1. Open iTunes
2. Connect your iPhone
3. Go to the Summary Tab for the phone. (Click on the iPhone in the device menu on the left side, then click on the Summary tab)
4. Hold the Shift button on your keyboard and click the Restore button on iTunes, then browse to your iPhone 2.2 firmware file. Make sure you select the correct file. 3G firmware files start with 'iPhone1,2_2.2.1...' and 2G firmware files start with 'iPhone1,1_2.2.1...'.
5. Click Open.

This will restore your iPhone to 2.2. After it is complete sync your iPhone, and restore previous settings when promted to set up as new phone or restore.

iPhone 3G Jailbreak:
1. Plug in the iPhone.
2. Run QuickPwn 2.2.5
3. Click next.
4. Click 'Browse' and locate the firmware file for your iPhone. It may be be found automatically if you updated your iPhone using iTunes.
Make sure you select the correct file. 3G firmware files start with 'iPhone1,2_2.2.1...' and 2G firmware files start with 'iPhone1,1_2.2.1...'.
5. Click Next.
6. Check Only 'Add Cydia' and 'Replace Boot Logos' (Replaces apple boot logo's with pineapples)
Uncheck 'Add Installer'.
7. Click Next.
8. Click Next to Start.
9. Follow the directions in QuickPwn.

After the process is complete it will reboot and will be Jailbroken and you will have a Cydia icon on the SpringBoard. To unlock see: iPhone 3G Unlock and Adding a Repo to Cydia

iPhone 2G Jailbreak/Unlock:
1. Plug in the iPhone.
2. Run QuickPwn 2.2.5
3. Click next.
4. Click 'Browse' and locate the firmware file for your iPhone. It may be be found automatically if you updated your iPhone using iTunes.
Make sure you select the correct file. 3G firmware files start with 'iPhone1,2_2.2.1' and 2G firmware files start with 'iPhone1,1_2.2.1'.
5. Click Next.
6. Check Only 'Add Cydia' and 'Replace Boot Logos' (Replaces apple boot logo's with pineapples)
Check 'Unlock iPhone' if you wish to unlock the iPhone (Not needed if you will be using it only on the AT&T network). Uncheck 'Add Installer'.
7. Click Next.
8. Click 'Browse' for each bootloader file and locate the appropriate bootloader files. (This dialog will come up only if you chose to unlock the iPhone)
9. Click Next to Start.
10. Follow the directions in QuickPwn.

After the process is complete it will reboot and will be Jailbroken and you will have a Cydia icon on the SpringBoard. If you chose to unlock then your phone will be unlocked.

After you are finished:
Open Cydia and let it update. Look at the sections tab (at the bottom of the screen) There are more repositories under the repositories sections which you can install. Each repository gives you different packages (apps/themes/tools/etc). IMPORTANT!: DO NOT upgrade to newer versions of the firmware on the iphone. It will remove the Jailbreak and you will have to wait for the new version of QuickPwn to come out that supports Jailbreaking the new version, and Jailbreak it again.
